Something doesn't add up. Your family is late? But there your wet sister just was? Did she hop out of the car and sprint faster than an automobile just to silently prank you? You leave the phone off the hook as you start to obey your family's order. To the kitchen you go, to "make dinner." Your "sister" can clean up her own watery trail. You have a dinner date with the santoku knife. "San toku." The word has always rolled around in your mouth like thorazine, bitter and unpalatable. Such a strange word, the only flourished name in a block of knives all labeled for their utility. The paring knife is for paring meat, boning of course for removing bones from chicken or whatnot, and the santoku knife... for santoku? Something doesn't add up.
