Treefingers collects as little as a writing forest can get away with: enough to know who planted what, and to let you back in when you return. This page says exactly what that means — what we keep, why we keep it, and how to have it removed.
Your account: an email address, a username, an optional bio, and — if you sign up with a password — a hashed version of that password. We never store the password itself.
Your writing: the forests, stories, chapters and comments you plant here, along with likes, follows and memberships. That is the point of the place, after all.
If you log in with Google or Facebook, we receive your email address and profile picture from them. We do not use your real name — social sign-ups get a randomly generated username you can change in your profile settings. We never see your Google or Facebook password.
To run Treefingers: keeping you logged in, attributing your chapters to you, and sending the emails the service needs — account activation, password resets, and notifications about your stories.
We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't share your information with anyone beyond the services that keep the site running.
We set one session cookie so you stay logged in. We use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to understand how the site is used — aggregate wandering patterns, not surveillance.
Treefingers runs on infrastructure providers for hosting, database and email delivery (Vercel among them). Login via Google or Facebook involves, respectively, Google LLC and Meta Platforms — their privacy policies govern what happens on their side of the fence.
You can see and edit your profile from your settings at any time. You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it — see data deletion for how.
